Random Thoughts

I always wanted to study Arts especially Psychology, Geography and Philosophy. But living in a developing country like Pakistan forced me to choose some technical/professional subjects. After spending five years with Computer Science, now i feel interest in this field. I want to learn as many languages as possible, thats why people who know multi languages, attract me a lot. My favourite computer applications are Microsoft Encarta World Atlas and Google Earth because both of them help me to overcome my thirst for the World's Geography

I love poetry and my favourite poets are Allama Mohammad Iqbal, Bashir Badar, Mohsin Naqvi etc. I like to read literary books especially in Urdu. Infact i dont leave any book untill i finish it. I like very much the history books, and always willing to visit the historical places Damascus, Baghdad, Baitul Muqaddas, Istanbol, Cordoba etc. I like to watch Cricket and play Badminton (i am more than average in this game).

I try to practice Islam as much as possible. Infact it is never difficult for any one to practice Islam while living in any part of the world, doing any job, thats why Islam is the only Universal Religion and capable to build Universal Brotherhood among the whole human being. But first we muslims have to change our preferences and priorities, we have to adopt the Islam in our lives only then we can make the difference as we did in the past. All the greate Muslim scientists of the past were good practical muslims, they were not embarrassed of their ‘Islamic Appearance’. May ALLAH give us such a courage and wisdom to face the challanges of current world without loosing our Islamic Identity.

Its my dream to see a peacefull world where no one is deprived of its basic and legibal rights. This is possible only when the large and developed countries will stop interferring in the matters of weak countries. More than 80% of the wars (including the world war I & II) were initiated and fought (either direct or indirect) by such large countries. Each and everythig is mortal and has to be vanished except the Almighty ALLAH which is the lord of all creatures. At the end i will say that:

You guarantee me JUSTICE, I will guarantee you PEACE

Surviving far from family

Every normal person feels home sickness while working or studying far from their homes and family, as i do. But sometimes it becomes almost imposible for ’some’ peoples while staying away from their home whether for job, study or business. Since i myself belong to a ‘Saraiki‘ society spread all over the Southern Punjab, i felt this factor becomes very very important. This might be the reason that very few youngsters join Pakistan Army.

There is a folk related to the behvior of peoples living in Southern Punjab, especially in Bahawalpur - Once Nawab of Bahawalpur became happy from one of his companion, so he decided to award him. He alotted him thousand acres of land to cultivate, but this land was located in Bahawalnagar instead of Bahawalpur. The poor guy prepared and left to its new becoming home. Though he was also taking his family with him but still he was too much hesitated about leaving his home. He stayed outside the city for two months, meanwhile Nawab of Bahawalpur has to pass near to his stay. The Nawab asked him “What are you doing here ? Didn’t i sent you to Bahawalnagar ?” The poor man replied “Your excellency, please forgive me because i do not want to get this opportunity. It is almost impossible for me to leave my home and live at new place with quiet new peoples”. The Nawab shocked and said, “well, you yourself are not interested in changing your own fate”.

I also observed this psychology several times (as i myself belong to Bahawalpur), but i am always confused in deciding whether it is right or wrong. My contention is that if you do not want to leave your parents who are old and need your assistance at that stage of their life then your hesitation to leave the home is probably right. Its tenth year that i am away from my parents for study and i know that i cannt start my career in Bahawalpur (there are not enough opportunities related to my field). It is also apparent that my parents will would not like to leave their companions with which they spent their life, to live with me outside Bahawalpur. Parents do require our attention in the later part of their age as they did for us when we needed it. One can say that it was their duty, so isn’t it our duty at this time. So what i will do ? quiet unware of it right at the moment, may ALLAH guid me with the best.

On the other hand if some one is hesitating just because he doesn’t want to face difficulties, in this case it is crime. If you are always stuck at your home then you are adding one more obstacle in the development of your country. In Saraiki society there is a famous qoute about this, “Half bread at home is better than two earned away”. I dont know in which sence this saying is established ? As a whole it is dangerous to follow this saying. Think if the companions of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) had thought like that while leaving their home then i might be bowing down before some idol made of mud. Thank GOD they didn’t thoght like the people of ‘Souhern Punjab’.
